Te Muka Rau is a small philanthropic trust, and our aim is to contribute to:

a socially cohesive Aotearoa New Zealand where Te Ao Māori is strong and vibrant, where the central place of Te Ao Māori in Aotearoa is understood and supported by all, and where we all feel confident and respected in our own cultures and heritage.”

The name Te Muka Rau has been gifted to us, and translates as “the many strands.”   This refers our commitment to social cohesion – by weaving together many different strands we create new, strong and beautiful possibilities.  We were formerly known as the Think Tank Charitable Trust.

Thanks to our partner Groundwork: Facilitating Change, who contribute approximately one third of our annual grant budget as part of their community commitment.  Thanks also to our other regular and one-off donors, and to all the organisations we are privileged to support.  Together we help to build the Aotearoa of the future.
